Training the physical body:
Riding the crest of the fitness industry evolution for more than 30 years as a fitness professional, from “aerobic dancing” a la Jane Fonda and leg warmers, in the early 80’s, to the present day ” high-intensity interval training” model, has been an interesting and very informative journey. Most of my formal training and certifications as a Personal Training Specialist and a Nutrition and Wellness Expert have been through CanFitPro and the GoodLife Fitness organization.
Settling the mind, awakening the spirit:
After adding regular yoga and meditation to my personal wellness regimen I quickly realized that the payoffs were huge. Most of my inspiration for these practices came from the seminars and books of Dr. Deepak Chopra. In 2010 I began studying under his guidance at The Chopra Center for Wellbeing. I graduated with the highest level of qualification, “Chopra Certified Vedic Educator”, which enables me to teach the Chopra programs of yoga, meditation, and Ayurvedic health care.
Taking Mindfulness into the Woods:
When I started guiding people to experience the human-animal bond in a mindful way, (aka “goat yoga”) it was obvious that taking these holistic awareness practices into the great outdoors, is a natural fit, and a very powerful one. When releasing stress in beautiful natural surroundings, children and adults alike can easily access their “child’s mind” of curiosity and playfulness – the portal to the present moment.
As well as developing and guiding nature immersion programs in partnership with local farms, I am currently studying guiding with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy, learning the latest techniques to deepen this practice.
