Training the physical body:
Experiencing the evolution of the fitness industry for more than 30 years as a fitness professional, from “aerobic dancing” a la Jane Fonda and leg warmers, in the early 80’s, to present day “high-intensity interval training”, has been an amazing journey. Most of my formal training and certifications as a Personal Training Specialist and a Nutrition and Wellness Expert have been through CanFitPro and the GoodLife Fitness organization.
Settling the mind, awakening the spirit:
A consistent yoga and meditation practice is the perfect compliment to a physical fitness regimen. Most of my inspiration for these practices came from the seminars and books of Dr. Deepak Chopra. In 2010 I began studying under his guidance at The Chopra Center for Wellbeing. As a Chopra Certified Vedic Educator, I am qualified to teach the Chopra programs of yoga, meditation, and Ayurvedic health care.
Taking Mindfulness into the Woods:
As my connection to the natural world deepened I discovered first hand the benefits of this experience. When we release stress through mindful practices in a natural setting, we can access our “child’s mind” of curiosity and playfulness – easily dropping into the present moment.
I am a certified guide through the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy, where our mission is to connect people with nature. By this, we mean helping to build deep relationships with nature, based on sensory and sensual experience and communication. The programs that we offer aim to create cultures within the group that incorporate deep support among participants for each others’ experiences, which are often profound. This mission is embedded in the Way of the Guide and the practice of guiding forest therapy walks.
